Describe how collaborative teams will be designed to support Goal A and common vision:
Cochise will meet regularly as a Professional Learning Community to focus on reading comprehension strategies including, but not limited to, predicting, summarizing, inferring, making connections, and clarifying. A book group will be formed to study and discuss Teaching Essentials by Reggie Routman. In addition, half of our teaching staff will be attending the International Reading Association’s 54th Annual Conference. These teachers will then return to share their new strategies to be utilized in the classroom.

What Goes in the SIP Binder?
Use the blue binder provided to you by the Curriculum Office. Do not put documents in plastic sleeves. You may use dividers or colored sheets of paper to divide sections, but it is not required. While you may present artifacts and other evidence of success to tell your SIP story during your SIP presentation, there are only a few things that need to be in the SIP binder.
1. Completed copy of SIP (pages 1-11)
2. Copy of PowerPoint (3 slides/page preferred)
3. A list of all your teachers and whether they turned in the necessary documentation to the SIP binder
3. Teacher reflection is stapled to PD log
4. Only the PD hours that directly align to Goal A are on the SIP PD log
What Happens at the Presentation?
Schools will present to other schools in their complex and/or by leveled area (i.e, all high schools). The purpose of the presentation is to share the journey of school improvement at your site. Your PowerPoint should address the rationale of your site for selecting the goals, how the goals will be monitored and evaluated, as well as sharing artifacts of student and/or teacher learning. Site goals do not need to dramatically change year to year and teams are encouraged to use data to support decision-making. Each site’s presentation is about 30 minutes. Below are some general guidelines:
1. Develop a PowerPoint presentation summarizing the SIP goals, data collected and analyzed as well as the process and outcomes for your school.
- Clearly state Goal A and Goal B.
- Give background (i.e. connecting to NSDC Survey, AIMS data, etc) for why the goals were selected.
- Identify what data you are using and how the data will indicate whether or not you met your goal(s).
- General rule – three to four slides/goal.
- The point to make in the PowerPoint is to share the process of goal selection, activities/strategies implemented to support goals, and what conclusions can be made at this point in time.
2. Bring documentation to support your goals. This documentation will be stored at the school site after the presentation in a secure location.
3. Submit one master binder for SIP Committee containing: SIP Pages 1-11, copy of PowerPoint, original signature verification sheet, and teacher reflections with PD log attached. High Schools will also need to create additional folders (usually 3-4) for NCA committee members to review.
- Submit ONE notebook to the SIP Committee (High School will need 3-4 folders for NCA guests).
- Bring 3-5 examples of the artifacts that tell the “SIP” story at your site. Include in your PowerPoint or as part of your presentation.
- The goal is to share the highlights and provide a few examples of the work done at your site (quality of artifacts to share versus quantity of artifacts to share).
- Provide a hard copy of the PowerPoint in your notebook.
- Provide the original signature page and the original sign off of teachers’ participation.
- Provide the originals of the teacher reflection form(s) and teacher logs.
- Important: While a grade level or group of teachers may be implementing similar strategies/lessons/activities etc., it is essential that each teacher completes an individual reflection that ties the strategies they used with their students and the impact the interventions, lessons, etc had on their students. It needs to describe how the individual teacher engaged with their students even if many teachers are “doing the same thing.”
4. The teacher leader mentor assigned to each goal will conduct the presentation of the goal to the SIP Committee.
- The Curriculum Department will provide two substitute teachers per school to release the Goal A and Goal B teachers for their SIP presentation day.
