Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are writing to inform you of the Emergency Response Plan procedures that we have in place here at Cochise Elementary School and that are under the direction and guidance of the Scottsdale Unified School District. We want you to be aware that the school district and all of our school campuses have made extensive preparations to respond effectively to all emergency situations.
In the event of a major disaster during school hours, your child(ren) will be cared for at Cochise Elementary. Scottsdale Unified School District has a detailed Emergency Response Plan (ERP), which has been formulated to respond to all emergencies as well as a major catastrophe.
During an emergency, students will be released at designated locations on our school campus or at nearby relocation sites. Our primary evacuation site is Mountain View Recreation Center, 8625 East Mountain View Road, Scottsdale, Arizona 85258. Parents are strongly encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Cochise Elementary School Emergency Response Plan during an upcoming presentation. The presentation will be given by our School Resource Officer, Julee Patterson, on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. during the Cochise APT meeting in the Media Center.
In any emergency, your cooperation is required to ensure the safety of all involved:
1. Please do not call the school. Telephone lines are needed for emergency communication and we want to be able to direct all of our resources immediately to the emergency. We will provide information updates as soon as we are able to.
2. In the event of a serious emergency, students will be kept at their schools until they are picked up by an authorized adult who can show identification and who is listed on the School Emergency Card. Please be sure you consider the following criteria when you authorize another person to pick up your child at school:
· S/he is 18 years of age or older
· S/he is usually home during the day
· S/he could walk to the school if necessary
· S/he is known to your child
· S/he is aware of and willing and able to fulfill this responsibility
3. Turn your radio to a news station for emergency announcements. Also, the Web site www.az211.gov will have emergency information as will our District Web site: www.susd.org. If students are to be kept at school, radio and television stations will be notified.
4. If electrical service is not affected, information will be relayed via the Emergency Phone Notification System, which sends out calls to your home, business and cell phones.
5. Talk with your child about the importance of following directions given by school personnel in times of an emergency.
Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated. Safety is our number one goal and working together we can ensure that we maintain the highest level of safety here at Cochise Elementary School.
Kind Regards,
Sarah Stammegna
Principal
